An Open Letter to Andre Olivier, Senior Pastor, Rivers Church, Sandton

Dear Mr Olivier

It is with great disappointment to note the Senior Pastor’s diabolical statements on race. This is the danger of zeal without knowledge, of you wanting to make social comments, but are ignorant of the history of the very country you purport to be a citizen of. Mr Andre, before you get up on the pulpit and make ignorant statements regarding black people, go and read about the Land Act of 1913, read about how black people where dispossessed of their land, engineering the poverty of millions of blacks, taxation that was deliberately enforced to drive people out of their homes in order to create cheap labour for the mines.

When you want to talk about hard work,talk about the millions of black people who catch taxis everyday at 4am in the morning to be at work for 8am, spending 4hrs commuting and 60% of the salaries on transport. You do not deserve the position you’re in, you’re not a worthy representative of God, who made it clear neither Greek nor Jew. Out of the abundance of your heart, you have spewed your bile that is divisive and offensive. Do the honorable thing and resign, you’re no representative of Jesus!

When Jesus offended, it was always to challenge the religious order of the day (For the law was given through Moses, Grace and Truth came with Jesus Christ),to usher in His Kingdom. You would do well to go back to basics and read your bible and less fanning these racists fires that seem to be raging out of control in our beloved South Africa.
