Child Welfare South Africa speaks out on the death of 3 year old Jamie Naidoo

It is with deep regret that we hear the news of the death of dear little Jamie Naidoo. Child Welfare South Africa is deeply saddened by the passing of this innocent three year old, Jamie Naidoo, and will make every effort in ensuring that those who were responsible for this gross negligence are brought to justice. A thorough investigation of this case is currently underway in this regard.

We mourn with the communities for little baby Jamie Naidoo and all children who have been victims of similar incidence of abuse leading to such a tragic end. It is even more devastating to note that the child’s death was at the hands of caregivers entrusted with the safety and protection of its children. Child Welfare South Africa takes its responsibility to care and protect children seriously and our focus is therefore on prevention and early intervention in the lives of families and children at risk and needing care in terms of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005.

“This incident has highlighted the increasing challenges we face in protecting our children despite our limited and dwindling resources. We are therefore making a nationwide appeal to communities to become partners and to take collective responsibility together with Child Welfare South Africa and its many affiliates in ensuring that communities become secure and safe for all children,” said Mrs. Saras Desai Regional Director for Child Welfare South Africa, KwaZulu Natal and the Eastern Cape.

This calls for a united and joint effort of all involved in the lives of children, parents, teachers, caregivers to help us protect our children especially during the 16 days of Activism against abuse of Children and families. The campaign is from the 25 November to the 10 of December 2014. Workshops and information sessions are being held in all provinces to increase care and protection of children by equipping parents to take better care of their children.

The Children’s Act makes reporting an incident of abuse, neglect or harm against a child mandatory. Help us to help them. Your support is highly valued to prevent our children from becoming statistics and victims of such criminal acts.
