The largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, was awarded three accolades, including one gold at the ICSC Solal Marketing Awards 2013. Gateway was one of the most recognised shopping centres, competing against international centres at this year’s prestigious event.

“This is a wonderful achievement for the marketing and management team. Being recognised for our world class event and innovative digital platforms highlights that Gateway has truly evolved into a theatrical realm of fashion and entertainment,” says Adrian Raw, Portfolio Manager at Gateway Theatre of Shopping.

Gateway was awarded a coveted gold for their ‘Gateway’s Material World – The Vodacom Durban July Preview Fashion Show’. Gateway has aligned itself with the Vodacom Durban July for the past four consecutive years with the aim of turning the preview fashion show into an entertainment extravaganza. The fashion show featured top designers such as Leigh Schubert, Gideon and Brenda Quinn and three top DJ’s which performed free of charge to the public. Since opening its doors, the Wave House saw the highest recorded foot count at this event.

A further two silvers were awarded for the Gateway VIP Launch and the Gateway Hotel Takeover competition. Gateway VIP is a loyalty programme that rewards shoppers just for visiting the mall. The Hotel Takeover competition allowed one lucky shopper to win two nights for herself and 100 friends at the Gateway Hotel valued at just over R300 000.

The ICSC Solal Marketing Awards bring together the finest in retail marketing across Europe and South Africa to reward those with the most effective campaigns. Recognising best practice and outstanding marketing performance, the ICSC Solal Marketing Awards are seen as the benchmark of quality throughout the industry.
