To all my mates who have been scathing about my changes in lifestyle which involved giving up Animal Products, Sugar and Alcohol and following a light Yoga Routine I would like to give you some hope and encouragement by showing you some EMBARRASSING photographs from my past FAT LIFE as well as some photographs from the new me!
The journey hits Year 5 next year and I have lost around 50 kilograms of weight – just less than 1 Kilogram a month.
Along the way I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (from my crappy lifestyle) and I have made great strides in combating Diabetes terrible onslaught on my nerve endings by incorporating lots of cinnamon, pistachio nuts, watermelon and beetroot in my diet. I can attest that that natural cure has resulted in a greater rise in the Vegan than ever expected. Further explanations will not be forthcoming here!
You can turn your life around with great focus, patience, love and learning how to listen to your body.
The journey will be different for each individual but the main thing is to make a start and stick to your guns.
As I gave up each food item I told myself that I was not ‘married’ to my resolve, only wanting to try and stay off of it for as long as possible.
Weaning yourself off of something by reducing consumption slowly DOES NOT WORK – the only way to stop is to do it COLD TURKEY.
I admit that giving up alcohol was the hardest for me BUT I also did that COLD TURKEY after a long session followed by a “WHITE STICK” journey home – very irresponsible.
DO NOT go on crash diets – weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise.
Look at your journey along these lines – If it took you 10 years to gain the weight and bad lifestyle expect to take 10 years to lose the weight and bad lifestyle. If you lose weight too fast then you get left with hanging skin. You grew into that skin, allow your skin time to shrink with you.
At the end of the day I can honestly say that I have had an incredible journey and the best compliments that I ever received was when friends and acquaintances recognised the positive change in me and embarked on their own journey of wellness incorporating a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle in their routines.
My veganism has resulted in a much calmer, more connected, very empathetic person – Join Me or Don’t, your CHOICE!
