The Desperados Motorcycle Club will once again host the annual Kuruman Charity Run at the Mothibistad Stadium on Saturday, 25 February 2017. The action-packed line-up will include extreme bike stunt displays, spin city, bike competitions and a music festival featuring some of the country’s top DJs and musical acts.
The Desperados Motorcycle Club is celebrating their 12th anniversary this year and is currently represented in five provinces, including the Northern Cape. The non-profit organisation aims to promote responsible riding and to provide much-needed support for underprivileged communities.
According to Ms Lewis of the Northern Cape Tourism Authority, the event is yet another opportunity to expose a new target audience to the tourism offerings of the Northern Cape. “This event will once again assist us in promoting the Northern Cape as a destination of choice to adventure sport enthusiasts. The biking community will be able to enjoy the unique attractions and warm hospitality of our beautiful province, while simultaneously also raising awareness for motorcycle safety and making a contribution to local communities. This event also creates economic benefits for the Kuruman community through accommodation and entertainment expenditure,” explains Ms Lewis.
Some of the attractions not to be missed in the Kuruman area includes the incredible Eye of Kuruman, a natural spring in the heart of the town, the miraculous Wonderwerk Caves about 45km south of town as well as the Moffat Mission with historic buildings including the old homestead, the fully renovated church and a book shop. For an incredible nature experience, visit the Witsand Nature Reserve approximately 170km from Kuruman. Witsand is known as the home of Roaring Sands/ Brulsand, where the flowing white dunes contrast starkly with the red sand of the Kalahari. Witsand offers sand boarding, bird watching, game viewing and hiking activities. Chalets, bungalows, caravan and camping sites are available for overnight stays.
