Renishaw Hills set to be a spectacular venue for the 2019 Botanical Society Winter Gardens

You are here: Home / Environment / Renishaw Hills set to be a spectacular venue for the 2019 Botanical Society Winter Gardens

(MyPR.co.za) June 12, 2019 By //  by Guest PR Filed Under: Environment Edit This Article

Located within the Mpambanyoni Conservation Development on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, the Renishaw Hills land – originally used for sugar cane farming – is being rehabilitated into its natural indigenous estate. Renishaw Hills now boasts some of the area’s most captivating indigenous flora and fauna consisting of coastal forests, biodiverse wetlands and the most incredible ocean views.

Visitors will now get the chance to immerse themselves in beautiful landscape of this mature lifestyle village on Saturday, 13 and Sunday, 14 July as the Botanical Society of South Africa hosts its Winter Gardens at Renishaw Hills. All proceeds raised on the day will go towards the Botanical Society of South Africa KZN Coastal Branch.

The Renishaw Hills development, which is built on an ethos of sustainable practice, welcomed renowned South African botanist and landscaper, Elsa Pooley, to assist in the establishment of indigenous gardens.

Commenting on the event, Pooley said: “It will be inspiring to both indigenous and other gardeners because of the range of plant material being used. With indigenous gardening not yet mainstream, many people are still learning about what can actually be done with South African plants. Renishaw Hills provides an exceptional example of what can be done on a housing estate using only indigenous vegetation that is both colourful and interesting.”

For those wanting to learn more about the plants and how to maintain their gardens, Elsa Pooley will lead three daily guided walks through the estate, showcasing examples of newly-planted gardens as well as the more established two-year-old gardens.

“It is aloe season, and there will be a number of succulent plants in flower,” said Pooley of the winter vegetation. “The range of indigenous plants used throughout Renishaw Hills is quite large and varied which provides great displays, including different textured and coloured foliage. This is also a great time of year to witness the amazing butterflies on the estate.”

Phil Barker, Managing Director of Renishaw Property Developments, developers of Renishaw Hills, said that they were excited to support the Botanical Society by providing this year’s spectacular venue for their Winter Gardens.

“At Renishaw Hills, we take the opportunity to #CelebrateScottburgh which is why we jumped at the chance to co-host the prestigious Botanical Society’s Winter Gardens this year,” said Barker. “We’ve always known that our indigenous gardens are incredibly special and the support of the Botanical Society of South Africa is testament to this.”
