Cosmo City Secondary School is situated in the far north of Johannesburg at one of the pulse points of famed mixed-income development, Cosmo City.
We provide tuition from grades 8 – 12 and our learners come from Cosmo City as well as the surrounding informal settlements.
Since Cosmo City Secondary began, our matric results have been steadily improving:
• In our first year of operation – 2007 – we obtained a 45% pass rate,
• The next year, this jumped to 61%, and
• In 2013 we obtained a record 85% matric pass rate.
According to legislation, government subsidises state schools with a certain amount of money. On top of that, they need to charge school fees to supplement their grants. We are a no-fee school, which means that we don’t ask our learners’ parents to pay school fees. This means that we need to survive only on the money that we get from the department of education – which is not very much – as well as the money that we can earn ourselves.
That’s why we need YOUR help!
Come And Celebrate Mandela Day With Us!
We need your 67 minutes
As Mandela Day falls into the June/July school holidays this year, we are going to be hosting our Mandela Day celebrations on Tuesday 21 July.
In the spirit of generosity and caring that Mandela embodied, we would like to invite everyone to come and do their 67 minutes at our school. Here are examples of what we need done:
• Picking up litter,
• Weeding,
• Planting flowers and restocking our vegetable garden,
• Painting our classrooms, and
• Polishing our classroom furniture.
We would also like to appeal for donations of seeds for people to plant, paint, furniture polish, gardening tools, paint brushes, refuse bags as well as refreshments for our workers!
