Uitenhage, South Africa (22 JULY 2015) – Sovereign Foods and their staff joined up together to fulfill their 67 minutes of good deeds for Nelson Mandela International Day.
To get the staff involved in Nelson Mandela International Day, staff members brought toys to donate to children at the Uitenhage Provincial Hospital on Friday, 17 July 2015. A group of staff members visited the hospital and spent some time with the children and their parents when they handed over the toys.
The company also partnered with the non-profit organisation, We Care, to feed children in Port Elizabeth’s poverty stricken Ext 21. The Department of Health also participated in the outreach by offering wellness checks such as high blood pressure and cholesterol testing for adults. More than 1000 people attended the outreach initiative by the NPO We Care.
Sovereign Foods donated R 10 500 to the outreach and staff members assisted We Care with dishing up the food for the community members. This is the second occasion that Sovereign Foods supported We Care with this sort of outreach. In June 2015, the company also made a monetary donation of R 15 000 to the non-profit organisation for meals at a similar type of outreach.
Sovereign Foods Group Executive-HR, Thuto Shongwe, stated “Initiatives such as Nelson Mandela Day speak to the core of the culture of our company. As companies, we must serve our communities, not only on annual basis, but consistently, so that we can add value to the lives of those in our communities.”
Sovereign Foods is a supplier of top quality poultry products to South African and international markets via their Country Range and Cater Chicken brands and various other in-house brands.
