BELA Offers You a Chance to Support Women in Dire Need

You are here: Home / Featured / BELA Offers You a Chance to Support Women in Dire Need

(MyPR.co.za) July 9, 2024 By //  by Alan Straton Filed Under: Featured, General Business, Public Issues Edit This Article

The Yokhuselo Haven in Gqeberha is dedicated to offering refuge and assistance to individuals experiencing abuse, homelessness, or other forms of crisis. The primary mission of the haven is to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals can find solace, guidance, and resources to help them navigate their difficulties.

The haven offers a range of services, including:

  • Temporary shelter for individuals fleeing abusive situations
  • Counseling and emotional support for trauma survivors
  • Legal assistance and guidance for those seeking justice
  • Skills development and empowerment programs to help individuals rebuild their lives
  • Community outreach and education to raise awareness about abuse and crisis situations

August is the month where we celebrate across South Africa, what women stand for and what women have achieved and can and will still achieve. We all hear of great women in history and their contributions to our society, but all women are in actuality great beyond the little recognition so often received. We all possess the natural instinct to protect and help and to love – it is what makes us great mothers, sisters, wives and daughters!

In aid of celebrating women’s month, the Built Environment Ladies Association have come together to give back to women who are not as fortunate, women who, due to their circumstances have not been able to flourish yet in life, but who have been great in their own way – to seek help to escape their situation. That in itself speaks of greatness and courage!

At the BELA (Built Environment Ladies Association) Women’s month event on 1 August 2024 from 6:00 pm at the Crankshaw Marble & Granite Showroom situated at 46 5th Avenue, Newton Park, Gqeberha women will be asked to support Yokhuselo Haven in their time of need.

CLICK HERE to attend the BELA Women’s Day event (space is limited).

Yokhuselo Haven provides a safe temporary home for women and their children who are affected by domestic violence. They provide food, shelter, clothing, access to healthcare facilities and procurement of protection orders as well as counseling. While women are in the care of Yokhuselo Haven, they are taught work related skills to empower them to become financially independent and to create a stable future for themselves and their children.

Most often, these women and children have been bought to safety in the middle of the night as part of their escape, escorted by SAPS. They leave EVERYTHING behind and only have the proverbial clothing on their backs when they arrive at the Haven. When they eventually leave, Yokhuselo provides a starter pack for their new life.

We now appeal to all women, who know of someone in a situation like this, or who can imagine themselves in such a situation, to help us in anyway possible, to uplift these ladies and give them a second chance in life. We have picked the month of August to do upgrades and beautification work to the Haven and are asking anyone that can possibly please assist, by either material, monetary or food donations.

The items for the wish list are:

  • Dry and Tin Food donations not close to expiry
  • Bedding, Linen, Pillows, Towels
  • Crockery and Cutlery
  • Cleaning Materials
  • Children Toys and Books
  • Toiletries, Nappies, New Underwear and Clothing
  • Cash Donations

Any other items that you use in your household and everyday life that might not be on the list is welcome.

Should you have any queries or would like to contribute or donate, please feel free to contact any of the ladies listed below:

  • Nidene Geminiani from IDC Architects: 074 1433 094
  • Kyle Allers from Dulux: 066 289 2258
