Let’s Talk About 380K External Links to MyPR

Any good Search Engine Optimisation expert will rabbit on and on about external factors such as links back to your web site being part of the recipe for success online.

In fact one of Google’s first signals for it’s algorithm used to be the number of sites linking back to a specific site.

Obviously when that signal became widely known we had an explosion of link farms and other dubious methods to game the search engines and gain high ranking listings for relevant search terms.

In fact one of the more famous examples was if you did a search for ‘Click Here’ on Google then the Adobe web site would pop up first and on most of the first page of results. The reason was simple – the thousands upon thousands of web sites that included the words ‘Click Here’ as a hyperlink for people to download the Adobe Acrobat Free PDF Reader.

The example above points to the main reason why links are seen as very important – they are placed by humans who trust another web site enough to actually send a reader to that web site to gain more knowledge or a valuable resource – something that AI cannot quite make decisions about.

Back to MyPR and the current Total External Links count of 379 577 which Google defines as the; “Total number of unique links to the current property from outside the property.”

And the top 25 most linked to pages on MyPR from outside web sites are:
