Z’Fynest is an up and coming Hip Hop musician who is about to release his song “2016” to the nation. He was born in 1994, as Zwelibanzi Khumalo, when the first black political party governed South Africa. Everytime he questioned issues regarding the apartheid struggle, he was told that he knew nothing about the struggle. Hence a popular term to label him was ‘born free’.
Growing up in Thembisa, Midrand and Florida under poverty has led him to often question the role of freedom and as much as it is a controversial subject, He has decided to put it in a song, and thus releasing his first free single title ‘2016’ with some of the rapping lyrics saying “twenty sixteen umuntu omnyama usahlupheka” which is a Zulu sentence for ‘Twenty sixteen a black person is still poor’.
He believes that this song will relate to black people across South Africa whether poor or rich. “we lack music that speaks to the problems of the people, and I would like to fill that gap.”
We hope you do Z’Fynest, it is time that South Africa listens to a voice of a born free.
