The thrust of this article is to highlight the positive aspects of Public Relations in the news this past week as well as to acknowledge those who continue to blaze a trail for the PR Industry in South Africa.
The Financial Mail’s Adam Hunter published a question; “Is PR one of the most in-demand careers of 2025?”
Hunter says that PR is evolving into a future-proof career as it adapts to new technologies, trends and societal needs.
Here are Hunter’s four reasons why it could be considered one of the hottest jobs of 2025 and beyond:

IOL’s Rofhiwa Oscar Tshifure published an opinion piece titled; “Strategic PR: Reclaiming SA’s land reform narrative amid misinformation”
Tshifures says that Former Minister Naledi Pandor was right in stating that now is the time to turbocharge South Africa’s communication machinery as public perception is already being shaped by international media, foreign commentators and maskless keyboard warriors. This is no longer just a legislative issue; it is a communications issue. And it is one that needs urgent intervention.
Public relations (PR) is not just about media engagement or reputation management.
The SABC has issued a tender for a PR Company
Applications for the PR tender closes 18 February 2025.
According to the SABC; The service provider who will have to put in “considerable effort” to fix the “chronic failures in corporate governance which caused severe reputational damage to the SABC brand”.
Any company tendering will have to provide proof of a TV License for the company, active directors and Shareholder [sic].
The SABS says that going forward, one of the key priorities that the SABC aims to put considerable effort on is the restoration of its public image and trust among its audiences, industry counterparts, advertises and the plethora of stakeholders with whom the broadcaster enjoys affinity. One of the ways in which the broadcaster can reclaim its reputation and display its dominance and credibility as an industry leader is to solicit the services of experts in the field of Corporate Image and Reputation Management.
In a short piece on Media Update, Joreke Kleynhans debunks the biggest myth in PR
“There is no such thing as bad publicity.”
Joreke concludes by saying; “If your brand needs more than people’s attention to be successful, the phrase, ‘There is no such thing as bad publicity’ is definitely not applicable.”
Zamokuhle Ntsele from The Media Online offers “Five tips to thrive in today’s fast-paced PR industry”
According to Ntsele; “Public relations in 2025 demands adaptability, strategic thinking and resilience. It requires a sharp skill set and the ability to stay ahead of industry trends.”
