As PR Professionals build up their body of work on MyPR we find more and more businesses asking for advice on how to submit a press release and how to find the RIGHT PR Professional to write a press release for them.
MyPR’s best advice is as follows:
If you are looking for a PR Professional to write a press release for you then have a look at the style and subjects written about by the various authors/PR professionals on the MyPR site.
We highly recommend that you chose a PR Professional who utilises our Featured Press Release Offering. Articles written by those PR Professionals can be found here: https://mypr.co.za/category/featured/
The name of the PR Professional is at the bottom of each article – clicking on the name will give you all the Press Releases submitted by that Pro.
Some examples of authors on MyPR:
- Lisl Whytock – https://mypr.co.za/author/lisl/
- Craig Jarvis – https://mypr.co.za/author/craigjarvis/
- Siyathetha – https://mypr.co.za/author/edrich/
- The Fried Tomato Co – https://mypr.co.za/author/the-fried-tomato-co/
- Kaeleigh Elliot – https://mypr.co.za/author/kaeleigh/
- Linda Janse van Vuuren – https://mypr.co.za/author/lindaj/
What you are looking for is someone who is comfortable writing about a subject that is the same as your industry.
Other ways to choose a PR Professional are to find which ones are writing about industry in your city OR by subject.
The LHS Sidebar on this page: https://mypr.co.za/category/featured/ has sets of links to Press Releases by City AND Subject – again the author of each is at the bottom of each article.

Once you find the right PR Company for your needs then they will utilise MyPR to post and publicise your industry/company/event/concern making sure that the content is relevant, well written, NOT a pure advert and entertaining. The goal here is to assist you in identifying yourself as an expert in your industry.
Each PR Professional that utilises MyPR’s Featured Press Release service has a specific, easy to use and quick page to submit releases to. Featured releases are distributed far wider than free submissions.
Press releases come in two flavours:
- A single paid for submission here: https://mypr.co.za/contact/featured/ OR a low monthly fee for UNLIMITED press releases per month here: https://mypr.co.za/save-with-myprs-monthly-flat-fee/
- Free Press Release Submission for Africa focused releases only can be found here: https://mypr.co.za/submit/free/

7 More Tips:
- Determine your budget – Be upfront about how much you can truly spend. It saves everyone involved time and effort when you do.
- Establish PR goals – Do you want the agency to generate media placements , attain speaking engagements and/or position you as an industry thought-leader? Determining what you want public relations to accomplish is a necessary first step.
- Do your research – Just as you would do with a doctor or lawyer, research the PR provider before signing a contract. What kind of results have they delivered for current and past clients? Examine their websites and LinkedIn pages: do they showcase case histories, testimonials – in other words, third-party proof-points that support their stated skills and underscore their credibility.
- Conduct a chemistry check – A successful relationship does involve personal interaction, and truly liking and respecting each other fosters a stronger working relationship.
- Get a public relations proposal – Every client should receive a plan that contains, at the minimum, an objective, strategy and tactics. A program is a roadmap, ensuring that expectations on both sides are in sync. An important point: the proposal is not written in cement. The business environment rarely remains static, and the proposal should allow for adjustments to ensure that objectives are met in a sometimes fluid market.
- Find out about professional services investment – Does your potential PR Firm subscribe to PR services that enable any agency, small or large, to provide the best possible access to media opportunities for their clients. In SA the standard media monitoring tool is Newsclip.co.za which monitors all media for client mentions, assigns a value to it and e-mails the client as it happens. (it is not uncommon for MyPR AVE – Advertising Value Equivalent – mentions to be valued in the many thousands of rand – very good bang for your buck).
- Most Important TIP: Choose a PR Professional that you feel comfortable with and who can show you a proven body of work on independent publications such as MyPR.
