Fidelity ADT Aids in Apprehension of Armed Robbery Suspects
In a quick response, Fidelity ADT’s community operations managers, played a crucial role in the apprehension of suspects involved in a series of armed robberies in Kempton Park. On the afternoon of October 11th, Fidelity ADT Community Operations Managers received a tip-off about suspects fleeing from Centurion towards the Moot Region, Pretoria. Without wasting any time, both Community Operational managers Spies and Sithole sprang into action, coordinating with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other security companies to intercept the suspects. The high-speed chase culminated on the N1 North between Stormvoel Road and Zambezi Drive, where the suspects’ vehicle was pulled over at the Zambezi off-ramp. Four suspects were apprehended and handed over to Kempton Park SAPS, as most of the robberies had occurred in that area. Fidelity ADT’s Quick Response Stops Potential Break-In
Knowing your neighbours’ routines and being aware of their movements significantly increases the chances of noticing when something is amiss. On 12 October at approximately 15:00 Fidelity ADT successfully apprehended a suspect in Kimberley. The incident unfolded when a neighbour spotted an unfamiliar individual inside a customer’s yard. The neighbour promptly alerted the homeowner, who then contacted Fidelity ADT. Upon receiving the call, Fidelity ADT Reaction Officer Matebes immediately responded and arrived at the scene. Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing & Communications at Fidelity ADT, praised the officer’s quick response. “Our team is trained to respond promptly to any potential security threats,” Hattingh said. “In this case, Reaction Officer Matebes’ immediate action ensured the safety of our customer’s property.” Upon arrival, Matebes found the suspect still inside the yard and managed to apprehend him without incident. Fidelity ADT Thwarts Attempted Fraud and Theft at Local Garage
In a swift response to a suspicious activity, Fidelity ADT, a leading security company, successfully prevented an attempted petrol and car oil theft, as well as fraudulent card usage at a petrol in, Gallo Manor. At 10:41 AM, three suspects arrived at the garage in a silver Hyundai hatchback. They ordered the petrol attendant, to fill up their vehicle and give them a pint of car oil. The suspects’ behaviour raised suspicion, prompting the petrol attendant to press the panic button. Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing & Communications for Fidelity ADT, praised the quick thinking of the petrol attendant and the rapid response of their team. “Our Senior Reaction Officer Matjila arrived on the scene within two minutes of activation,” she said. The garage manager, Mr. Moolla, who had been observing the suspects on CCTV, also came out to investigate. Upon realizing they had been noticed, the suspects abandoned their pint of oil and fled from the garage. Mr. Moolla gave chase in his black BMW. Officer Matjila noticed Mr. Moolla’s familiar vehicle and followed him along with backup Officer Letjeku. They intercepted the suspects at the corner of Bowling and 8th Avenue. Upon apprehension, three suspected stolen credit cards were found in possession of the suspects. The South African Police Service (SAPS) was called to the scene, and Sergeant Mnisi took the suspects into custody. Hattingh added, “This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and quick action in preventing crime. With the holiday season around the corner, many people have already started working through their revamp or repairs list before businesses shut down over December. “Many residents are bringing in cleaning services and contractors to complete repairs before the holiday season hits. Opening your house to contractors can definitely expose you to risk,” says Charnel Hattingh, Group head of marketing and communications at Fidelity ADT. She says the first and most important step is to vet your contractors thoroughly before you embark on any renovations. “A reputable contractor will usually have references and we recommend you contact these prior to any contracts being signed. You can also do an internet search on the company or contractor to see if there are any red flags (i.e. do they have a website with proper contact details and information). You could also potentially find information on previous work not included in their list of references. You may find that there may be more negative comments than good references or ideas on things to keep in mind if you decide to hire their services, such as their tiling may need attention, or they may not be great with plumbing, to name a few.” She also says it’s important to question the contractor about the staff that will be on site. “Find out if they are permanent or part time employees. Ideally your safest option is to use a contractor that has their own staff complement.” “Also, go with your gut feeling. Often a contractor may be all talk and a great sales person, but once the work starts you never hear from them again. You could ask whether they have administrators or assistants who will be in constant contact with you to keep you up to date. Also, remember to ask who the supervisor will be on site, whether they stay on site or move between sites and don’t be afraid to ask whether all employees have had credit and criminal checks done, and whether this can be verified.” Hattingh believes it is important to be …

Dog poisoning incidents Mbombela
Recent media reports in Mbombela have once again highlighted a deeply concerning trend: a number of dogs in the Steitltes area have tragically fallen victim of a spate of poisonings that happened in the early hours of 8th September. Fidelity ADT is advising dog owners to be cautious. “Residents need to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or vehicles seen in the area to either Fidelity ADT or the SAPS” says Charnel Hattingh, Group head of marketing & communications for Fidelity ADT. “Usually we see a spate of house robberies following incidents of dog poisonings so we all need to work together to ensure these properties are secure,” she says. “Fidelity ADT will be increasing its presence in this area to ensure greater visibility and support for these residents.” Guard dogs are a great early warning system and, sadly, are targeted when criminals want to gain access to a property. Hattingh offers these security tips for residents in the area: Test your alarm and ensure it is in working order. Ensure that you set your alarm when you are away from the house and arm specific zones of your house that are not being used when you are at home. Cut back any trees or bushes that could be used by criminals to climb your gate, wall or fence. Check that your perimeter security has not been tampered with and ensure any damaged is repaired immediately. Inform your domestic worker and gardener that dogs have been poisoned and encourage them to be on the look out for any suspicious individuals. “We send our condolences to all those families who have lost a beloved pet and are fully committed to ensuring this trend does not continue,” she says. A perfect chance also to do a security Spring clean. “Your security system – at home or at work – is an electronic device that can potentially be affected by any changes in weather conditions. This is especially true for any aspect of the system that is located outside the building, such as outdoors CCTV cameras or motion detectors. “Now is the time to see if they are still providing the kind of protection you expect,” says Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity Services Group. “With life as busy as it is, it may have been some time since you last did a test. It’s quick and easy. It is particularly important to test the system if you had recently experienced any out of the ordinary weather conditions such as strong winds or heavy rains,” she says. Hattingh also recommends immediate action if your security company sends any kind of message about problems experienced in monitoring your security system. Most security companies can detect any potential problems in receiving signals from your property, and it is crucial for customers to cooperate and respond to the messages. “Testing your alarm can be done remotely over the phone. If something out of the ordinary is noted, a technician can be dispatched to sort out the problem. Testing should be done at non-peak times at least once a month.” Dirt, dust, and insects can also cause problems with gate motors, beams, and sensors. Moore Shows Steely Determination At Dakar 2023 – Up close with Charan Moore
In what has been described as the hardest Dakar in recent history, Dakar 2023 has proven to be a stunning success for South Africa across all the various categories and classes. The rally, which kicked off on 1 January 2023 on the shores of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia, saw a total of 455 vehicles across all categories and classes traversing the 14 different stages that covered nearly 8000 km. Without doubt one of the toughest classes in the Dakar is ‘Original by Motul’ where the riders compete without any technical support or assistance. This makes for an enormous challenge, with riders having to race one of the toughest races in the world while maintaining their own motorcycles without any assistance. This year 31-year old Charan Moore, riding for HT RALLY RAID HUSQVARNA RACING, and familiar to many as the race director of the Roof of Africa, had one goal in mind and that was to win in the Original by Motul class. This despite the fact it was only his second Dakar and he was up against a determined field of very experienced and committed riders. The fact that he succeeded despite almost impossible weather conditions, was a testament to his dedication, and the skills he has honed on the equally challenging gravel plains of Namibia and in Lesotho’s Maluti Mountains. After a rollercoaster two weeks Charan emerged victorious taking top honours in the Original by Motul category and coming in 28th overall in motorcycles and 12th in the Rally 2 Class.
