Firstwatch Whisky Wins Double Gold Medal In New York
With a host of whisky brands from around the world competing for the top spot at ‘The Fifty Best’* World Whisky Awards held recently in New York, and an esteemed international judging panel from the world of wine and spirits, coming away with a Double Gold medal is no small achievement for Firstwatch Whisky. Twelve top international judges held a ‘blind’ tasting of thirteen World whiskies where strict tasting rules were applied. Rated individually on a 1 to 5 point scoring system, with 5 being the highest, Firstwatch Whisky received the top award – a Double Gold, confirming that Firstwatch Whisky is not only on par with international whiskies, but even better. “We’re thrilled to receive another accolade and medal to add to our growing collection. It’s particularly rewarding to be acknowledged by such a group of international whisky specialists,” says proud Firstwatch Brand Manager, Pierre van der Westhuizen. “Firstwatch Whisky is the finest blend of imported rye and cereal grain whiskies, which is then aged locally in charred oak barrels and bottled. This maturation gives Firstwatch Whisky its full rye taste, making it remarkably easy to mix and a winner on every level,” explains Westhuizen. The judges particularly noted its floral aroma flavour profile, with a subtle, sweet fruitiness and wooded undertone, together with its rich rye taste and golden glowing amber colour. “It’s always exciting to be recognised in the world spirits arena and proves to us that our brand is truly deserving of its slogan ‘Perfectly blended to deliver reward in every sip,” concludes Westhuizen. Following on from the brand’s previous gold medal awards at IWSC (International Wine and Spirit Competition) and ISC (International Spirits Competition, as well as last year’s Gold medal at the International Spirits Business World Whisky Masters, Firstwatch Whisky is rewarding consumers with a world-class, award winning whisky. *TheFiftyBest.com is a digital guide to wines and …

Esports Is A Major Highlight At Rage
Esports is absolutely booming around the world with tournaments frequently getting in the millions of views on streams, and this December visitors to rAge expo will be able to witness the phenomenon live. The expo, which takes place at the Gallagher Convention Centre from the 9th to the 11th of December, will see a number of South African esports organisations hosting an action-packed line up of games including Minecraft, Rocket League, Overwatch and the CS:GO Intel Africa Masters. RGB Gaming will be hosting a series of competitions aimed at bringing together teams from a variety of schools where esports has taken off in popularity. RGB Gaming has been working tirelessly with schools and tertiary institutions around the country to help them develop their esports programs through everything from assisting with system and environment requirements to training with teachers, general IT and even, assisting players with game/life balance and help with their posture. According to GM for RGB Gaming Jaco Sauer there is evidence that shows esports programs within educational institutions help build a sense of belonging, promote collaboration and communication skills, and foster good sportsmanship and improved social behaviour, whilst also creating a pipeline for future STEM careers and furthering learners’ strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. “We at RGB Gaming believe integrating these programs in learning institutions through a sustainable and stable environment not only helps children to build their future in a technologically inclined world, but also promote the understanding of parents and teachers that this is building viable 21st century skillsets,” said Sauer, GM. That help has been paying off as illustrated by the fact that 14 schools are set to take part in Friday's Minecraft Speedrun tournament at rAge Expo, with six high schools taking on the Overwatch2 tournament on Saturday. Along the way there will also be time for Minecraft Build …
