Johannesburg, 26 September 2022: Southern Africa-based retailer PNA has announced the successful culmination of a fundraising campaign launched on Mandela Day 2022. The Rock Your Funky Socks Day initiative saw just over 75 000 stickers sold, with PNA topping up the final amount to R1,2 million. These profits are earmarked for the financing and construction of 4 new Early Childhood Development schools in underfunded communities. The campaign is the result of a partnership between PNA and Breadline Africa, a collaborative relationship that began in 2021 with the construction of a new school in the impoverished community of Orange Farm, located 42km from Johannesburg. The current campaign culminates on 11 October 2022 with the rebuild of two schools, Ntlakwe Pre-Primary and Tandabantu Pre-Primary – both located in Bizana, Eastern Cape Province. These schools are currently suffering from a chronic lack of resources and are comprised of makeshift buildings with no electricity or running water. According to Herman Botha, PNA Senior Executive for Product and Marketing, private sector investment is a critically important factor in determining better access to education – especially in vulnerable communities. “Poor infrastructure, crowded classrooms, and unhygienic sanitation continue to beset education outcomes,” says Botha. “Decisive action has to be taken and investment provided in order to ensure every South African child has access to quality education. Fortunately, our customers and franchisees agree and through their unwavering support, we have been able to create pockets of hope in these communities.” The money raised by the PNA Group will be utilised to build 2 new classrooms, an office, and a functional kitchen for both schools. In addition, the schools will also receive new facilities – flushing toilets, water harvesting tanks, and playground equipment which has been generously donated. The Principal of Tandabantu, Ms Nozuku Peter says: “We are so …

Rip Curl GromSearch #3 Heads For Scottburgh At End Of The Month
Rip Curl GromSearch #3 Heads For Scottburgh At End Of The Month The third and final contest in the 2022 Rip Curl GromSearch will take place at Scottburgh in KZN on 24-25 September. This will bring to a close an exciting first year of the tour, with a bigger and better GromSearch in the plans for next year. The first event in this junior surfing series occurred at Victoria Bay early in the year. It was a resounding success, with good surf at the point, excellent contest management and red-hot surfing from the best juniors in the country. This inaugural contest was a taste of what was to come. After that, the series moved to Seal Point, Cape St Francis, where it once again enjoyed fantastic surf and an entire weekend of ripping despite poor weather. Some surfers repeated their excellent performances from the inaugural event. In contrast, others who exited the event early were sent home to possibly reassess their performances, equipment and contest strategies. The final competition in the 2022 series will occur at Scottburgh, on the KZN South Coast. Featuring a right-hand sand-bottom point-break and warm water, ‘Scotties’ is one of the more popular South Coast surf breaks and is an ideal venue for such a tournament and conducive to high-performance surfing. The tournament features U12, U14, U16 and U18 Girls and Boys divisions, and the competition is a full two days' worth of competitive surfing. Joel Fowles, Rip Curl GromSearch, Seal Point © Louis Wulff The Rip Curl GromSearch series allows kids to compete against the best surfers in the same age bracket from their country. This format provides these groms with an insight into a life of competitive surfing and gives them the invaluable experience of surfing and competing in different waves around the country. The Scottburgh contest is a Premier SAST event, with 1,000 points going to the winners and prize money as per premier events. Entries for the event are open here …

‘Fast Track’ Exclusively Shows The Depth Of Darryn Binder’s 2022 Challenge
ROOKIE ON THE MOTOGP RAILS: 'FAST TRACK' EXCLUSIVELY SHOWS THE DEPTH OF DARRYN BINDER'S 2022 CHALLENGE 'Fast Track' sees us jump on Darryn Binder's shoulder as he takes on his first 2022 Moto GP season as a rookie. The racer's easy and effortless personality gives us a revealing glimpse behind the helmet visor into the onslaught of the premier class and life in the 'Fast Track.' When 24-year-old South African Darryn Binder made the daunting transfer from the Moto3 category (250cc motorcycles) straight into the premier class of MotoGP (1000cc fire-breathers that reach speeds greater than 225mph) for 2022, he wasn't so much entering the deep-end but rather 'divebombing' from a clifftop. We tagged along for the ride. From the worries over the transition to training at home in Andorra to that sizzling debut in Qatar, moments of doubt over speed, and finally elbowing his way into the premier class with aplomb, 'Fast Track' was there for the first thoughts and emotions. But, like Darryn himself, 'Fast Track' quickly gets to the point. "I knew it was going to be tough…but this is all I wanted to do," he offered up. "The speed from Moto3 to MotoGP is insane. From day to day, I felt like I was starting at zero again! It took a couple of days to get used to that and then learn everything. There are so many electronics…also, it is one thing to be fit and strong, but it's another to be riding fit." The saddle with WithU Yamaha RNF was a case of right place, right opportunity and right choice for the talented and likeable youngster who had already cast his name firmly in the bracket of 'one to watch'. Regarding learning and acclimatisation, Binder was the fifth and final rookie on the 2022 MotoGP grid with the tallest mountain at his gate. His education and walk through the pressure, rigours and enigmas of MotoGP was a trek that fans could relate to. Have you ever wondered how a championship-winning Yamaha M1 race bike …
