Letshego Zulu accepts First Ascent’s challenge to take on the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE
“Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money” Never one to shy away from a challenge, Letshego Zulu has confirmed her entry into this coming weekend’s THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE that will take place at the Van Gaalen Cheese Farm (Hartbeespoort, North West Province) on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August 2022. A mom first and foremost, a qualified Biokineticist, co-founder of PopUpGym, a reality TV star (she appeared on both Survivor SA Maldives and Fear Factor SA), an athlete, an adventurer, a motivational speaker, and a health & fitness columnist, Letshego is looking forward to adding “trail runner” to her already impressive bio. “The team at First Ascent challenged me to take part in the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE and I'm never one to shy away from a challenge,” laughs Letshego. “I thoroughly enjoy the great outdoors. I often run on the road, mountain bike and hike, so naturally trail running fits into my adventurous outdoor lifestyle. I just haven't done any trail running in approximately 8 years, so the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE is kickstarting my trail running after my long sabbatical. I am looking forward to running on the very trails that I mountain bike on at Van Gaalen. I'm sure it's going to be spectacular. My goal is to cross the finish line comfortably every day.” Letshego adds: “I'm a lover of life and am always looking to make an impact, so if by taking up this challenge (fairly unprepared) I can inspire the next person to persevere when challenged, then I would have achieved my goal. That's what drives me. The message that I would like to share is that tough times never last, tomorrow always comes and over time, there will be a positive shift. Hang in there. Be patient and be kind to yourself.” “First Ascent partnered with Letshego as part of our ‘Influencer challenge’,” confirms Riaan Oosthuizen, General Manager of First Ascent. “The goal of the campaign is to follow the journey of Letshego as she …

Totalsports Women’s Race celebrates Women’s Day in PINK across three cities!
Pink was the colour of the day when just over 20 000 women lined the streets of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban on Tuesday 09 August 2022 to celebrate National Women’s Day by taking on the Totalsports Women’s Race in support of PinkDrive. Founded in 2001, this was only the second time in the event’s history that the Totalsports Women’s Race celebrated National Women’s Day across three cities on one day. To add to the excitement, this was also the first time since 2019 that the event was hosted due to the pandemic. Fortunate Chidzivo (Retail Capital Langa) celebrated Women’s Day in style by claiming her first Totalsports Women’s Race 10km victory when she crossed the finish line at Grand Parade, Cape Town in a deserving time of 35 minutes 28 seconds. “I did my first Totalsports Women’s Race in 2016 when it was still hosted in Stellenbosch. I think I finished sixth. It feels amazing to come back in 2022 and win it,” says Chidzivo. “I think I am lucky at Totalsports events. I won the Totalsports Two Oceans Half Marathon, and this is my second big race and it’s the Totalsports Women’s Race. I am proud to take part in a Women’s Race on Women’s Day. It’s important to stay healthy and I couldn’t wait to line up with thousands of women. I am proud to cross the finish line first. It gives me confidence to keep working hard because I’m reaping the fruits. I will definitely come back next year.” Nolene Conrad came in second, while Anél Terblanche finished third. Glenrose Xaba (Boxer Athletics Club) was the runner to beat in the Totalsports Women’s Race 10km in Joburg. Xaba crossed the finish line at Mark's Park (Emmarentia) in an impressive time of 34 minutes 36 seconds. “The route was tough,” says Xaba. “It was very hilly, and the competition was tough. I entered the Totalsports Women’s Race because it celebrates Women’s Day and because it supports PinkDrive. My mom has cancer, so I decided to run for her today. I am thankful for the support that we received it …

I have participated in the Totalsports Women’s Race many times. There is something special about lining up in a women's only race. The atmosphere just makes it memorable year after year. THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE set to highlight the North-West Province’s most iconic trails!
“Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money” The THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE will take place at the Van Gaalen Cheese Farm (Hartbeespoort, North-West Province) on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August 2022, and trail running enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing trail running at its best over the two-day period. “It’s the entire ‘experiential package’ that attracts me to the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN Series of events,” says Nico Sterk, local adventure athlete and THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE Route Manager. “The routes offer a nice balance between technical and easier trails to suit all trail running enthusiasts. The events are extremely well organized and just hosted on a whole different level. My brief from Stillwater Sports was to find routes that would be the perfect introduction to the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN Series of events, not too technical, but fun and still proper trail running. The goal is to prepare runners for the flagship event, the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 3-Day STAGE RACE that takes place annually in the Western Cape. The AFRICANX 2-Day XPLORE is guaranteed to be a unique experience especially for Gauteng based trail runners that have never taken part in the AFRICANX 3-Day STAGE RACE in the Western Cape.” “Stage 1 will be a great introduction for newbies to the sport,” confirms Sterk. “At some sections the route is tough, but most of it consists of fast and flowing singletrack. Stage 2 will have a tougher 4.7km mid-section, but it will be a good learning experience for the AFRICANX TRAILRUN 3-Day STAGE RACE. The rest of the stage features easy to moderate trails that are a lot of fun, while the last 3km will be super-fast. My advice to entrants is to run within your own ability. You do not have to be an experienced trail runner to take part, just be fit enough to cover the distances, but start training on trails if possible. No need to start with excessive amounts of hill training or trying to run super technical …
