Kabelo Mulaudzi produced the finest performance of his career to date, dominating a strong field to claim victory at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K on Sunday, 11 May, with a sensational new personal best of 27:49. Glenrose Xaba was unstoppable in the women’s race, powering to victory in a superb time of 32:00. Mulaudzi improved on his previous 10km best time by four seconds in what was his first Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES victory since 2023. “I last won an Absa RUN YOUR CITY SEREIS race in 2023, so to finally win one again is the best feeling ever. I'm very happy with my performance today. In Gqeberha, I wanted to run a personal best time but it didn’t happen and I ended up doing it today,” explained the man affectionately known as ’Mr. Podium'. The 27-year-old controlled the race from the gun and then picked up the pace in the second half to cross the finish line first followed by Lesotho’s Kamehelo Mofolo - who ran 27:53 which was just one second behind Namakoe Nkhasi’s national record. 40-year-old Stephen Mokoka rounded out the top three in a season’s best as the top ten men all dipped under 28:30. “The plan was to focus on my race and take the lead from the start. To be fair, I was scared seeing him (Kamehelo) coming for me but I told myself to push till the finish. Next, my focus is to run Durban (referring to the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K) where I'm hoping to run another personal best time,” said Mulaudzi who is only the second South African after Mokoka to win the Cape Town RUN YOUR CITY SERIES event since it’s inception in 2015. For being the first man across the line (R30 000) and breaking the 28-minute barrier (R40 000), Boxer Athletics Club standout Kabelo Mulaudzi — coached by Richard Mayer — takes home a total of R70 000. Glenrose Xaba matches his earnings, pocketing R70 000 for winning the women’s race and finishing under the 32:08 incentive mark. Clocking an impressive 32:00, Xaba also made history by ending a nine-year …
Rutto predicts upset as Xaba aims for another podium at Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K
Asbel Kiprop Rutto (Kenya) has promised to deliver an electric performance as a quality field of elite athletes from around the African continent descend on ‘The Mother City’ for the 10th celebration of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K on Sunday, 11 May in Cape Town. “I have been here since Monday to settle well and get ready for the race. This is the race where I first ran internationally and I ended up finishing fourth on the day,” confirms Rutto. Rutto returns to the race where he launched his international career back in 2022 - finishing in a respectable fourth position in a then personal best time of 28:25. Improving his lifetime best to 27:55 when he took third at the 2023 Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, the Kenyan top runner has gone on to an outstanding international career launched from the platform of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES. The 23-year-old who won the 2024 Rome Marathon in a new course record 2:06:24 says he is aiming to reign supreme comes race day. “Even though I am now a marathon runner, I still have speed. I have been inspired by Mokoka who set a 50km World Record but still comes to 10km to give us problems. My target here is to be able to run beyond my personal best time. I'm here to run fast and win the race, " explains Rutto, who trains in Iten in Kenya and ran 2:11:37 to take fourth place at last month’s Vienna Marathon. Challenging Rutto for top honours is Elroy Gelant who set a new South African Marathon record of 2:05:36 at the Hamburg Marathon on Freedom Day. Kabelo Mulaudzi with a 27:53 lifetime best will be aiming for another podium finish while South African road running legend Stephen Mokoka will be putting his speed to the test. 38-year-old Gelant who earned second in last year's edition of the race with a 27:54 finish, says he is not going to run fast especially after becoming the first South African to break 2:06 in a marathon barely a fortnight ago. "I'm going to take it easy on Sunday as you know I have just …

Mulaudzi Aims To Continue Podium Streak, Taljaard Targets PB at Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K
By securing the bronze medal in the 5000m at the Athletics South Africa Senior Track and Field Championships on Saturday, 26 April 2025, Kabelo Mulaudzi extended a remarkable streak of podium finishes that dates back to September 2024 - a run he hopes to continue at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K on Sunday, 11 May. “I’m consistent in my training,” Mulaudzi said when asked about the secret to his perennial podium positions in the wake of his 14:01.89 clocking at the Ken McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom at the SA Champs. “Whether I’m running a championship race or any other race, my aim is always to finish on the podium even when my body doesn’t respond well. In those cases I push myself to make sure that I’m on the podium.” In 2025, ‘Mr Podium’s’ top three finishes include victory at the Motsepe Foundation Race to Gender Equality 10km, gold over twelve and a half laps of the track at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Championships and a third career sub 28 minute clocking when he took third place at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K on 13 April. Stopping the clock in 27:57 in ‘The Friendly City’ left Mulaudzi just four seconds shy of equalling his lifetime best - a time which he wants to improve on in ‘The Mother City’ on Mother’s Day. “This time around I want to give it a go in Cape Town. My target is to run sub 28 and try and get a PB since I missed it in Gqeberha. If I can run 27 minutes and get a PB and finish on the podium, then I’ll be happy.” Also looking to run a personal best is Zanthe Taljaard. The 21-year-old surprised many with her breakthrough performance in Nelson Mandela Bay as she smashed her career best 10km time by over a minute. Taljaard ran 33:58 for ninth place against a world class assembly of elite women. Coached by André Venter the Boxer Athletics Club top runner from Heidelberg is high on confidence after grabbing the bronze medal in a personal best 16:39.24 behind Glenrose Xaba and Karabo More over 5000m at the …
