CAVI Brands is the brain child of Michael Ten Hope, a successful entrepreneur and Michael Pfaff, a highly regarded investment banker and former CEO of Rand Merchant Bank (RMB). In 2004 Ten Hope started what was then called Candur Active Value Investments, an active value investment business. Pfaff invested at that stage and in 2008 joined as a non-executive chairman. Initially the founders wanted to buy businesses and add value with a view of selling them at a profit. Along their journey they realised that they could create more value by focusing on building a brand powerhouse in the field of health, beauty and wellness – that is how the CAVI Brands we’ve come to know evolved. The very first acquisition that CAVI Brands made was Permark International in the year 2005; and the year thereafter were awarded licenses for 3 more brands, Imedeen, Kanebo International and INNOXA. Since then, CAVI Brands has gone on to procure eminent brands such as the number one professional skin care product, Dermalogica; Chanel, the ultimate premium brand; the Prestige Cosmetics Group which distributes fine fragrance, cosmetics and specialised skin care like Burberry, Elemis and OPI; South African personal care and homecare company, IncoLabs, that houses the likes of Tropitone, Lip Ice and Canderal; and highly respected, non-prescription healthcare company, Omega Labs, a stable for brands such as Dermalex, Physiomer and TCP. CAVI CAMPUS – CONCEPT TO REALITY In 2014, the CAVI Brands shareholders and executive management wanted to consolidate all the businesses by having them under one roof in order to increase workflow efficiencies, as well as team building and accompanying morale. After 2 years of dreaming, thinking, planning, costing and installation, the CAVI Campus is now a reality and proudly operating out of refurbished premises in Parktown, Johannesburg. Your best skin changes lives
Inspired by her three decades of work within the skin care industry where the vast majority of the ownership and work-force is female; in January 2011, Jane Wurwand founded the Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship (FITE), a global women’s entrepreneurial initiative. FITE focused on the provision of global microloans to women entrepreneurs who otherwise would not have access to capital or credit. FITE has connected with women entrepreneurs in more than 50 countries worldwide and microloans have been provided to over 36 000 female entrepreneurs. In 2013 Dermalogica South Africa partnered with an organisation called These Numbers Have Faces to identify deserving young women from disadvantaged communities that need assistance with university fees, as our focus is to educate and empower young women of our country. Since the establishment of FITE in South Africa, 11 young women’s university fees have been paid for with the aid of FITE. This year, FITE has committed to help 7 young women with their university fees. In order to raise funds for the foundation, Dermalogica will donate R10 to FITE with every purchase of precleanse and daily microfoliant. Purchase your precleanse and daily microfoliant, and help FITE empower as well as advance the young women of South Africa. #WhyweFITE Visit www.dermalogica.co.za to find an authorised Dermalogica skin care centre, concept store or shop online.
