Gangbusters Digital Surfing Magazine Newsletter
Gangbusters Digital Surfing Magazine Newsletter Eastern Cape - the surf has been firing for weeks, and the whole country has moved to the coast, but for the moment, nothing can steal our vibe. Our latest offering - Gangbusters Magazine Issue 5 - has been getting some great reception worldwide. As a result, there have been a few queries coming in about what the future might hold for this fledgling little magazine and business. Right now, we're sticking to our original plan and publishing the magazine in a digital format every month. We have had enough readers and advertisers query us doing a print magazine. There might very well be a print option in the future, but for now, we are focusing on the digital offering. The contemporary work of Cape Town photographer John Wilkinson has been getting a great reception from readers. We might need to do a follow-up story on this surf photographer due to all the feedback. His action images are world-class. Dave Lindemann has poured out the A-Grades from KZN over the last few months. He continued this program in issue 5. His action photos are primarily of Town waves like New Pier and North and all the usual suspects getting piped on the sandbanks. Let's not forget our kneeling brethren as the South African kneeboarding tribe came and hung out in Kneel Point for a long weekend. They scored waves and didn't really interfere with the locals at all, with everyone getting along handsomely. Organised by Gigs Cilliers, the kneeboarding meet every year somewhere and drink beers, surf relentlessly, and solve the world's problems every evening. Enjoy the magazine on your phone, tablet, or laptop, and remember that all adverts are clickable. There are some big sales behind those clicks, as well as a few very surprising giveaways. The next issue, Issue 6, will have a few surprises in it. It already looks like it will be an absolute bumper issue, with much interest around it. Our readership continues to …

This iconic car needs no introduction in South Africa. It has earned its reputation as a legend on the streets and is a highly sought-after weapon of choice in the world of Spinning. What Is The Box Shape? For decades, the rear-wheel-drive "box shape" BMW 325is – dubbed as the Gusheshe in South Africa's townships – continues to be the vehicle of choice for skilled spinning drivers. They execute heart-stopping twists and unbelievable stunts while spinning. What Is Spinning? Spinning is a South African motorsport that involves driving cars at speed in circles and performing stunts in and out of the vehicle. It originated in Soweto in the late 1980s. It was performed as a funeral ritual in which a stolen car was spun around to honour the deceased. It is now a recognised motorsport. Spinning Terminology Spinning: The car must perform a continuous spinning motion at high revs for a certain amount of time. This could be a circular, sideways, forward or backward motion. Tyre Bounce: Spinning the car as close as possible to the tyre barriers situated on the track. Of course, no part of the vehicle can touch these barriers, but the closer the driver gets the car to the barrier, the more points they are given. Doughnut: The driver must show a lot more control when performing a doughnut. Drivers must try and keep the car as steady as possible while creating the most compact and perfect circle. Power Slide: Also known as a drift motion, the driver sending the car in a sideways slide along the edge of the spinning circuit. Judges take into account the vehicle's angle, speed, the number of revolutions and how smoothly the move is performed. Stand-still …

The missing piece in the project management puzzle
There is no doubt that marketing and advertising agencies have come a long way in the past few decades, but what some still lack is the ability to accept and adapt to change, while striving to manage projects effectively. Something as small as a creative director taking a day of sick leave in the middle of a project, or a client requesting additional changes at the last minute, could cause a big headache for the project manager and team working on the project. Agencies appreciate effective project management as it ensures structure and efficiency. According to Head of Brands at hoola Modern Agency, Lauren Wait, it instills trust and allows for a calm, guided atmosphere for the team to excel. “Without it, it’s impossible to stick to a timeline, while delivering a job within a client’s budget, and keeping both the agency’s and the client’s team happy with the end result,” said Wait. However, changes are a given with any project, but large agencies often struggle when it comes to implementing agile, robust project management processes. “They have a big ship to turn which can be slow and rigid,” said Wait. Like any business, agencies have a ton to manage and organise on a daily basis. There are multiple projects on the go - varying in size, complexity and budget, which means the success of a project is heavily dependent on an agency’s ability to effectively manage them. “So, when you also throw agility into that mix, things can become quite disruptive, which is why you need to be prepared for change and have the right attitude towards it, along with the right people to manage it. “At hoola, we’ve adopted this thinking and attitude. We start by employing the right, talented people for the job. We also know when to ask for team support to get a project over the finish line, and we’re driven to the end to ensure it’s still delivered effectively and meets the high-quality standards we set for ourselves.” Approaching project management in this agile …

Gangbusters Surf Magazine Issue 5 Out Now
Gangbusters Surf Magazine Issue 5 Out Now Dear Readers It has been a difficult few weeks in South Africa. Still, the latest issue of Gangbusters Magazine is a feel-good read of positivity and good vibes if you have some time on your hands. Our sympathies and strength to those who have had it tough in KZN and Jozi. Also, our thoughts to Jay Lammers, JBay shark attack victim, and former dawn patrol fan. Also, to those of you that are feeling the grips of COVID on you and your loved ones, you have our deepest sympathies. Part of the reason the magazine was published late was because we had COVID at the HQ. We were lying down quite a lot during production time, holding our heads and moaning a lot. When we weren't lying down, we took medicine, studied up on drugs and vaccines, and generally lived on aspirin and soup. That's all over now, and it's time to reveal the magazine in all her glory. Cape Town photographer John Wilkinson snags the cover shot with a sick image of Jordy Maree at Supertubes powering on his backhand. Wilkinson has the photo showcase in the magazine, with some incredible photos from West Coast and JBay and a few spots in the Boland. Gangbusters main ou in Durban Dave Lindemann has an excess of crazy images from the weeks of epic surf between the piers as well as a few insane sessions on the coast. So we get to glimpse a few big turns in this issue instead of watching the town locals getting pitted off their heads. In an interview with Dr Cohen, we learn the basics of dealing with a shark attack and a few guidelines on what to do if you're trying to assist a victim. Not the easiest of subjects, but super-relevant after the excellent medical care that Jay Lammers received from the NSRI and others at JBay during his recent attack. Remember that you can't call them 'shark attacks' anymore. They are now known as 'negative encounters' so as not to hurt the sharks' feelings. See the Washington Post for more. Similarly, for …

Nelson Mandela Bay Residents Commended
The Abantu Integrity Movement (AIM) have praised the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay in a statement on the failed insurrection: AIM commends the residents of Nelson Mandela Bay for standing up against the forces behind the insurrection that has led to the loss of over 117 lives, billions in property, environmental and infrastructure damage, and sabotaged economic prospects and livelihoods in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. The fires, both literal and figurative, were put out through the combined efforts of the Mayor, taxi associations, residents formations, religious leaders and the Business Chamber working together to keep the peace. Nelson Mandela Bay has been the epicentre of protests in the past. We remember the 8 dead in New Brighton from the 1952 Defiance Campaign, the 35 persons killed by police in Langa on the 21 March 1985, the over 50 deaths arising from the Northern Areas Uprising that started on the 06 August 1990 and the 7 or more deaths countrywide from the millions that marched following Chris Hani’s assassination in April 1993. But those protests were different, their intent being to secure the freedom of all. And the resulting deaths in the main were as a result of apartheid security forces resorting to violence as means to enforce an evil system. By most accounts, the arrest of ex-President Jacob Zuma on last Wednesday and the subsequent #FreeJacobZuma protests, that now appear to have been deliberately orchestrated by elements sympathetic to the ex-President, lit the spark that has threatened to engulf the entire country and divide us further. We live in a fledgling democracy, have a democratically elected president and parliament, a constitution that upholds the right of all and a judiciary that on the whole has proved to be independent and fair. No one is above the law, as ex-President Zuma has stated on several occasions himself. And therefore, violent protest that seeks to “free” the ex-President from the consequence of own, …
