A Covid-19 activated resurgence in radio listenership in the Eastern Cape has continued into 2021, according to Algoa FM marketing manager Lesley Geyer. “Independent audience research by Colony has found that over 70% of Algoa FM’s listeners are spending more time tuned into the station than they were before the pandemic,” she says. The technology being used to access the radio station is also changing, with 18% of the audience surveyed, reporting that they are streaming Algoa FM. “Listeners are tuning in for both entertainment and information. The Colony research survey has established that the trust factor in respect of the news reports broadcast on air and published on the Algoa FM Facebook page has also increased during the pandemic. “Listeners are checking the ‘facts’ shared via other social media pages against our curated news. “This trust in Algoa FM news content extends to the rest of our experiential offering, which includes our digital products and the credibility of our news team as well as our on-air personalities, and our advertisers benefit by being closely associated with a trusted brand,” she says. Geyer says the research indicates that more people are listening to Algoa FM because they have found how easy it is to tune in. “The wide variety of Algoa FM platforms provides easy access for listeners. “Not only do they listen via traditional radio sets, they are also tuning in via their mobile phones, audio streaming, station apps and satellite”. According to the Algoa FM listeners surveyed, they are kept entertained and informed by the presenters, regular competitions and the music the station plays. “Around 60% of listeners say they are attracted to the competitions and retail specials they learn about when tuned in. “The research also confirms that listeners are more interested in saving money due to the financial pressures brought about by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. “This is evident by in the research …
Bay Businesses Secure Over R8 Million In LRED Support
Four manufacturing and tourism businesses have secured over R8 million in funding from the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism. MEC for the Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism Mlungisi Mvoko visited Gqeberha to confirm that the funds are being used for the intended purposes, verify the employment impact, and officially present the grants to recipients. The grants were made possible by the Local and Regional Economic (LRED) Fund that the Department manages. Before the official presentation, MEC Mvoko visited Hloza Engineering, a 100% black-owned manufacturing business in the Bay area that received an R2 million LRED grant. The business used its funding to acquire various machinery and vehicles for the company that manufactures steel products. “Hloza Engineering, as is the case with all the businesses which we funded throughout the province, are part of the government-community compact to create employment, retain existing jobs and ensure business sustainability as we work hand-in-hand to develop the economy. Our people should expect to witness our own making a difference in other people's lives," he explains. Plastic injection moulders New Breed (R1,9m), manufacturers of various paints and rubber proofing Numo Paints (R1.7m) and waste recyclers and plastic manufacturers Rhino (R2.7m) were also presented with their grant funding on Friday (18 June 2021). The Department confirmed 85 jobs were created or saved in the Metro through this funding window. The Bay presentation brings to 17 the number of recipients who have received well over R33m in funding from LRED, Imvaba Cooperative Fund and the Provincial Economic Stimulus Fund. Why buying a house in your 20″s could be the perfect step towards financial freedom?
Johannesburg, 22 June 2021 :The principle of owning real estate to become wealthy has never been more true today than it was back then. Simply think of the many investors who have built enormous wealth and rose up to create their own legacy from it. The principle of owning real estate to become wealthy still holds true now. In fact, we can make a strong case that it is far truer now than it was back then. When you ask people, who are twenty or thirty years older than you if they would buy real estate at a young age, they're more than likely to say yes. It will help lead you to financial freedom in your future. Benefits of buying a home in your 20s The benefits of homeownership are huge—especially when you’re younger. In your 20s, a home is a long-term investment, and if you stay long enough, it can mean building serious wealth over time. Sell the home at a profit later on, turn it into an income-earning rental property when you’re ready to move up, or enjoy fully paid-off housing during your retirement years (though those may be far down the line!) Homeownership also means: Consistent, reliable payments – No more annual rent hikes from your shady landlord. More control to customise the property – Forget “accent” walls. Paint, upgrade, renovate and do whatever you want to your home once you own it. Great credit – Getting a mortgage loan at a young age can help you establish a solid credit history, which means a good credit score and ample financial opportunities later on. Tax benefits – Homeownership comes with several tax benefits that can lower your tax burden and increase your annual refund. You’ll also likely save on monthly costs. Rents have been skyrocketing in most major cities in recent years, with the average mortgage payment coming in well under the average rent. You also have the option of renting your property on Airbnb or other similar sites to make extra cash as needed. How young is too young to buy a house? There’s no …

We adhere to the strict guidelines as required by the Department of Labour as well as Occupational Health and Safety. Read more about this interesting and versatile but at the same time hazardous mineral that is still found in many residences and industrial buildings. A Brief History of Asbestos Believe it or not, asbestos has been in use for thousands of years. Asbestos containing pots and other cooking utensils dating back 4,500 years were found by archaeologists near the Lake Juojärvi in Finland. Between 61-112 AD), Roman scholar Gaius Caecilius Cilo wrote that slaves who mined and worked with asbestos became afflicted and often succumbed to a mysterious lung disease. It would be almost 2,000 years before it was determined exactly what caused the mysterious lung disease. Modern asbestos mining and production began in 1868 at mines in Italy, and 1878 large-scale production began in Quebec, Canada. In the early years of the 20th century, asbestos was also found in South Africa and what is now Zimbabwe. Asbestos mining in South Africa began in earnest in the 1930s. The asbestos mining industry in South Africa reached its peak in 1977 when it employed 20,000 miners. After 1977 export markets declined due to restrictive legislation in countries that imported asbestos. In 1930 Dr. Edward Merewether, a British barrister and physician, who was an expert in industrial medicine and the laws linked to it, undertook a study of the effects of asbestos exposure on the lungs. His results showed that asbestos workers had a significant risk of developing pulmonary fibrosis. He found that one out of four asbestos workers was suffering from asbestosis. His findings resulted in the first promulgation of regulations to limit exposure to …

Gangbusters Surfing Magazine Issue 4 Is Live!
Gangbusters Issue 4 Is Live! South Africa – time does seem to fly when you’re having fun. It seems just the other day that we were thinking about publishing a new online surfing magazine.with the hope of making a few people laugh. We had some support from the start, and that support has been growing nicely as more and more people realise that if they want to keep up with the world of surfing in South Africa, they might have to move off the endless Facebook and Insta photos, to get a decent take on the whole thing. There is so much happening right now in the digital space that one needs to figure it out and embrace it somehow or be forever wondering wtf just happened. There are some fabulous websites out there. We have Magicseaweed, Stab, Beachgrit and Wavescape, where we can consume cool stuff daily, and a few classic movies are being made and distributed. We have movies like Satori, Matt Bromley’s new Over The Edge movie coming soon, and John John’s crazy Maps Of Home movie. People are making fantastic online series, like Kai Linder and The Regular Guy. There was the successful Rip Curl E-Pro, part of the Surf Web Series last year - and there is the digital version of the Rolling Retro rolling out right now (did you see what we did there?) Among all of this is little old Gangbusters Magazine (issue 4 ekse), with its passionate bunch of supporters and advertisers and a steadily growing fan base of strange people. We’re doing something a little bit different and not too worried about where this is all going, as long as we’re having fun along the way and not just desperately trying to keep up on social hubs. To steal a quote from Elvis Depressedly, “we want to try a few new things and do weird shit and maybe fail.” We have an interview with cover boy Matt Bromley, and we have a classic ‘best-of’ from the photographer, snowboarder and 1987 Billabong Country Feeling winner Grant Myrdal. There’s some more of the gold that Dave …
