The Abantu Integrity Movement (AIM) welcomes the President's announcement confirming the date of the Local Elections for 27 October 2021. As a "100% Nelson Mandela Bay" focused local movement committed to putting "Residents Before Politics" AIM wishes all participants the best in their endeavours towards this historic date in our local calendar. As a local only group focused solely on residents, AIM is confident of gaining wide acceptance from residents who are sick and tired of the "Circle of Chaos" that our beautiful City currently finds itself in. "The current disarray in the Municipality is a shameful betrayal of everything that President Mandela fought for before he was imprisoned by the apartheid government, and everything he sought to achieve when he was leading the first administration of the democratic Republic," says AIM Volunteer in Chief Mkhuseli Khusta Jack. Our city has been plagued by a culture of political self-preservation at the expense and ahead of the interests of our people. In just one unfinished term since they were elected to office in 2016, our dysfunctional Council has had five Mayors. "Just left that sink in for a moment – Five Mayors in just over Four Years. That has been the sad story of political instability in Nelson Mandela Bay," said Jack. The first Mayor, Atholl Trollip, had barely found his feet when he was ejected from office. Mongameli Bobani, representing a party with only two seats on the Council, also did not last long. Then Tsonono Buyeye, whose party only managed the grand total of one seat in the elections, also made an unremarkable cameo appearance as our Mayor. And now Nqaba Bhanga is practically doing a second stint in the same term of this Administration. We AIM to change the course of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. I am a Hip Hop DJ, broadcaster and opinion leader. I live and breathe Hip Hop. Why is Metro FM known as the coolest station? Metro FM is cool because it speaks to the urban market. The aspiring, working-class audience. Where is your skatepark? I recently opened a skatepark called “The Skate Hub,” an indoor skatepark in Johannesburg. It’s always been a dream of mine to open up my own skatepark. The opportunity came, and I took it with both hands. The skate scene in Johannesburg needed an indoor park. When did you get into skate? I first got on a skateboard in Grade 2 - 8 years old. Nowadays, I do most of my skateboarding in Johannesburg, either in the city or at the local parks we have around the area. I skate to my abilities, as it is just a hobby. No pressure whatsoever. Who is DJ Speedsta? The 2016 SA Hip Hop DJ of the year DJ on Metro FM Skater Skate Park Owner Final words I’m super happy to be with Monster Energy. This is a huge deal for me. The West Wind Digital Lifestyle Magazine Issue 9 Is Live.
The West Wind Digital Lifestyle Magazine Issue 9 Is Live. https://issuu.com/westwindmagazine/docs/west_wind_9 The West Wind, a digital lifestyle magazine covering the greater St Francis area, has just released its 9th issue. At 74 pages, it is a bumper issue for locals and others to read at their leisure. Best read on a tablet, The West Wind has enjoyed increasing popularity and much positive feedback over the last few issue. In this issue, we feature the amazing Surf Art of JBay resident Stephen Bibb. Inspired by JBay and the waves of Supertubes, Stephen’s art adorns many walls in our region, and he can be found at the St Francis Market with his cool ‘wood n waves’ wall hangings. We review the famous St Francis Brewery in St Francis Bay, the intimate and well-liked Hoekhuis in Humansdorp and Ginger restaurant in Port Elizabeth. All offer very unique experiences, and all serve the most sumptuous meals. The St Francis crew that swam in the Jendamark Bellbuoy Challenge are a tough bunch. We tracked this event, and while it was a lot of fun, the side-current, the swell, and the occasional whale did make for an exhilarating mornings swim. Melissa Volker has written two very successful popular books, being A Fractured Land and Shadow Flicker, the latter based in St Francis Bay. In this issue, she teaches us the basics of Stand Up Paddleboarding, particularly in the flat waters of the canals. Prof. Richard Cowling’s essays are always top-rated. In this issue, we go kayaking down the Kouga with him and a few of his friends. There is also a classic video interview with Dave and Phillipa Hill, long-time St Francis residents. In the interview, they look back at how the beaches have changed over the years and why they changed so drastically. They also chat about what needs to be done to restore the beaches to their former glory. The West Wind is on Facebook The Wind Wind is on Instagram Contact: editor@thewestwind.co.za Video: The …

Greenwood bids farewell to “shining light & devoted educator” of 39 years, Mrs Elaine Thompson
For 39 years, Mrs Elaine Thompson has served the learners, teachers, parents, and leadership of Greenwood school - leaving an indelible mark on each one of them. She’s served under six headmasters, held a number of leadership positions in education, and has been an integral part of the development and growth of Greenwood Primary School since she first stepped into her classroom in 1977. Thousands of lives have been touched by her service and devotion to her career in education. She began her teaching journey as one of the first graduates of the Port Elizabeth Teacher’s Training Centre, with a small class of grade two learners. Just five years later, the school’s reputation for quality education had flourished, bringing an influx of students. Classes grew to almost 45 kids per class, with Mrs Thompson juggling grade twos and grade threes, as well as a new position as head of the junior phase. After a brief five-year hiatus in which she stayed home to raise her triplets, Mrs Thompson returned to the school in 1991 as a level one teacher. She was elected to the school’s governing body in 1995 as its secretary – a position she retained until retirement. In 2014 she was appointed as deputy head of the school. She also headed up the ILST (Institutional Learner Support Team) – in integral support system of specialist social workers, psychologists, councillors, and remedial speech and language therapists who assist learners with special needs at the school. But despite being heavily involved in the day-to-day workings of Greenwood, Mrs Thompson still offered her time and creative energy to all who needed her. “For staff and students, she’s been a sports coach, councillor, ‘parent’, mediator, events co-ordinator, confidant, and expert tea-maker,” says headmaster of Greenwood Primary School, Mr Gary Pike. Mrs Thompson’s camping skills could rival Bear Grylls – but with far better food. She never missed an opportunity to explore the trails in …

The 3 Best Wi-fi Packages Available in South Africa
Cape Town, April 14, 2021: Wi-Fi is what keeps many South Africans connected. Not only does it provide a stable connection so that more people can enjoy access to information and entertainment, but these days it is also what keeps many South Africans in business. With so much being done online, especially considering recent events, being without a suitable connection can reduce the quality of life for many and put a big damper on business growth. “At TWK Communications, we are offering a range of high-quality wireless internet packages in South Africa, catering specifically to the needs of South Africans. We have created packages which are more than capable of providing a reliable connection with some of the fastest internet speeds. Our upload and download speeds are phenomenal since we pride ourselves on being able to get even our “out of reach” rural clients connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection.” You do not have to be physically present to make an impact, to grow a business or to be social these days. You just need one of the best Wi-Fi packages. How much internet speed do you need? When you are choosing the Wi-Fi package that you feel will be best, you need to know what internet speed will be ideal for your needs. The temptation is to buy your package based purely on price, but you could experience 2 unpleasant scenarios if you do this. Firstly, you could end up with a line that is way too slow, leaving you frustrated. Secondly, you could end up paying out more than you necessarily need to. If you just need a connection to browse the web, check emails, use social media, or stream entertainment, a 5 – 15 MBPS line should do. For gaming, working from home, and streaming high quality videos, you might want to look at a 25-50 MBPS line. Those running security via the web or who are working in the creative industry might want to consider 50 – 1000 MBPS line. If you are confused, you can always ask the Internet Service Provider you are working with for …

Gas Geysers – What you Need to Know
Pretoria, April 10, 2021: When you open a hot water tap with a tankless gas water heater, a sensor detects the flow. The gas burner ignites, and the heat exchanger warms the flowing water. A gas water tank heater works by heating water and storing it until its needed. The gas burner will automatically ignite when needed to maintain the heat of the stored water. Most units come with adjustable thermostats to set the water temperature. Gas geysers are simple to install and operate and are not expensive to maintain, but at the same time it is not the type of product to buy ‘off-the-shelf’ without doing proper homework before buying. Several factors will influence the type and size of a geyser which will best suit your needs. There are two main types of gas geysers available in South Africa – standard gas geysers and advanced gas geysers. Standard Gas Geysers have the following advantages Affordably priced Battery operated. Simple to operate and maintain. Most of these geysers offer ‘summer’ and ‘winter’ temperature controls, and a water inlet control. Standard gas geysers come with a warranty, provided they are installed by a registered and qualified gas installer. Disadvantages of Standard Gas Geysers Standard gas geysers cannot effectively supply sufficient hot water to multiple hot taps simultaneously. In homes with two or more bathrooms, you will ideally need a medium capacity standard gas geyser per bathroom. Standard geysers are limited in the distance they can supply hot water – approximately 8 m to 10 m, hence not recommended for double storey homes, unless the bathrooms and kitchen are all on the ground floor. Standard gas geysers are sensitive to fluctuating water pressure. Standard gas geysers must be protected from prevailing winds and rain and must have a weather cover and flue pipe fitted at extra costs. Larger standard gas geysers will use more gas than a smaller size, but this is balanced out by the fact that …

Gangbusters Surfing Magazine Issue 2 Out Now
Gangbusters Surfing Magazine Issue 2 Out Now South Africa – Gangbusters Surf Magazine issue 2 is out now and is getting excellent traction and feedback online. With a wide array of inclusive content, the local surfer community and a fair number of international readers have all expressed their enjoyment at the style and breadth of the coverage inside the magazine. In this issue, we have a photo feature by the legendary Nic Bothma, who currently works as a photographer for European Press-photo Agency. Nic has been shooting surfing, mainly in Cape Town, for the last 30 years, and was first to document the guys surfing Dungeons in 1999. He also shot the session at Madiba’s Left on Robben Island. We look at two surf industry members doing their own thing and ‘on the move.’. Mat Marais from MAT Surfboards tells us about the satisfaction of mowing foam, and Stephen Price describes bringing a new apparel label, NOAH, into the industry. Both hard-working kind of guys, their respective businesses are set to take off. We also have a squizz at two surfers who are ‘new talent’. Ntokozo ‘Surprise’ Maphumo from Durban and Brian Furcy from Mauritius are two such surfers who are focused on competitive surfing and determined to make their mark on the South African surf scene as well as the global stage. We document their thoughts and ideas at this relatively early stage of their careers. There is an intimate reveal of facing a 10-foot wave at The Bay Of Plenty in 1978. First published in Shaun Tomson’s book, The Surfer’s Code, the 1977 World Champion talks us through the terror of a 10-footer smashing on the Bay sandbank, the thrill of making it out alive, and the discordance of surviving the wave of a lifetime with no spectators, no cameras, and no contest announcers. It is gripping stuff. There is also all the latest news, gossip, rumours, and a few letters to the editor, covered in 72 digital surf action pages. Special mention to Dave Lindemann for …
