Cape Town: Few coins are as closely associated with South Africa as the Krugerrand. Recognised around the world, the Krugerrand has a fascinating history that connects South Africa's gold-mining heritage with the global precious metals market. For decades, Krugerrands have been a popular choice for people looking to own physical gold. While the reasons for buying them can differ from person to person, their combination of recognisable design, gold content and long-standing reputation has helped make them one of the world's best-known bullion coins. Why Gold Krugerrands Remain So Popular There is something appealing about owning a physical asset. Unlike an investment that exists only on a screen, a gold coin is tangible. You can hold it, store it and pass it on to the next generation. Gold Krugerrands are particularly well known because of their history and recognisability. First introduced in 1967, the Krugerrand was created to promote private ownership of South African gold. It quickly became internationally recognised and played an important role in making gold ownership more accessible to individual investors. The coin's distinctive design has also remained largely iconic over the years. The obverse features Paul Kruger, the former president of the South African Republic, while the reverse depicts the famous springbok, one of South Africa's most recognisable national symbols. For collectors and investors alike, these details give the Krugerrand an identity that goes beyond its precious metal content. What Makes Gold an Attractive Asset? Gold has been valued for thousands of years, and its appeal has endured through changing economies, currencies and investment trends. One reason people consider gold is diversification. Holding physical gold can provide an alternative to traditional financial assets and gives investors another way to spread their exposure across different types of assets. Gold is also globally recognised, which contributes to …

Loan on Cars Delivers One-Hour Cash Against Paid-up Vehicles This July
Gauteng and Limpopo drivers can raise emergency cash against a fully paid car in about an hour, seven days a week, and keep driving it. Mid-year money pressure rarely waits for payday. For many households across South Africa, July arrives with a cluster of costs all at once, from winter utility bills and mid-year school fees to vehicle upkeep and the general squeeze that follows the festive season and the first half of the year. Loan On Cars is using this period to remind motorists in Gauteng and Limpopo that a fully paid-up car can be turned into usable cash in about an hour, without anyone having to hand over the keys. The company offers a straightforward proposition. If you own a car outright and it is registered in your name, you can raise a cash advance against it and carry on driving the vehicle for the duration of the arrangement. In practical terms, this gives owners a way to unlock the value sitting in their car for a short period without selling it, parking it, or losing the daily use they depend on for work, school runs, and family life. For a driver weighing up how to take a loan against my car, the appeal is the speed and the simplicity. Loan On Cars evaluates a qualifying vehicle, confirms the paperwork, and advances funds in roughly an hour. The offices operate seven days a week, from nine in the morning to five in the afternoon, Monday through Sunday, which means the option does not disappear over a weekend when many other lenders are closed and an unexpected expense will not wait. The idea of being able to pawn my car for quick cash is not new, but the detail that sets this service apart is that you keep driving. Traditional pawn arrangements usually require the item to be surrendered until the advance is settled. Here the vehicle stays with its owner. The ability to pawn my car and still drive it is the core of what Loan On Cars provides, and it is the reason the service suits people who cannot afford to be without transport even for a few …

Mashatu Enters Peak Dry Season Game Viewing in Botswana’s Tuli Wilderness
As the southern African winter settles over the Northern Tuli, Mashatu’s 42,000-hectare reserve moves into its clearest, most rewarding months for watching wildlife in the open. It is June 2026, and the remote eastern corner of Botswana where the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers meet has slipped fully into the dry season. The grasses have thinned, the bush has opened up and the rivers have drawn animals towards their permanent water. For Mashatu, the private game reserve known across the region as the Land of the Giants, this is the heart of its peak game-viewing period, and the lodge is welcoming winter visitors who want to experience the Northern Tuli at its most accessible. Mashatu sits within the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, on 42,000 hectares of privately held wilderness at the tri-border confluence where Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe meet. The landscape is unusually varied for a single reserve, taking in open plains, grasslands, riverine forests, rocky hills, marshland and sandstone ridges. That diversity is part of what makes a winter botswana safari here distinct from the better-known delta and floodplain destinations further north and west. Visitors travelling through the dry months find sightlines that stretch far across the plains and game that concentrates around the reserve’s water sources. Why winter is the season to visit The southern African winter, running through the middle months of the year, is the driest and most predictable time on the reserve. Mashatu records rain-free conditions across the overwhelming majority of the year, a pattern measured over more than two decades, and the cooler winter days bring comfortable temperatures for time spent in open vehicles and on foot. With less surface water scattered across the bush, animals gather in more reliable places, and the reduced vegetation makes them easier to find and to watch for longer. Mashatu is home to some of the largest elephant herds found on any private game reserve in Africa, and …

Rip Curl Vic Bay Surf Pro – Regional Qualifying Series Season Opens at Victoria Bay
The 2026/2027 World Surf League Africa Qualifying Series (QS) season got underway at Victoria Bay on Friday as competitors took to the water for the Rip Curl Vic Bay Surf Pro QS 2,000. At the same time, the Rip Curl Vic Bay Surf Pro Junior JQS 1,000 marked the second stop of the regional Junior Qualifying Series season. Competitors were greeted by fun two-to-four-foot waves and light winds early in the day. However, conditions became more challenging as onshore winds arrived sooner than expected, creating tricky sections and testing heat strategy throughout the afternoon. Despite the changing conditions, surfers delivered strong performances as the first points of the new QS season went up for grabs. Familiar Faces Return To Competition As the opening event of the new season, the Rip Curl Vic Bay Surf Pro welcomed several familiar names back to competition. Vic Bay local Daniel Orpen enjoyed a successful return to professional surfing. Orpen took the win in the opening heat of the day against Jeffreys Bay's Joshe Faulkner before using his local knowledge to secure another advancing position in the Round of 48. After several years away from professional competition, Orpen was pleased to be back in the jersey and competing in front of friends and family. Faulkner responded with one of the standout performances of the afternoon. The Jeffreys Bay surfer found one of the best waves of the round and linked together multiple sections for a 7.33-point ride. He quickly backed it up with a 6.00, finishing with a heat total of 13.33 to comfortably take the win ahead of Nate Colby. While conditions became increasingly difficult, Faulkner adapted well and made the most of the opportunities that presented themselves. Erlank Advances With Smart Heat Strategy The final heat of the Round of 48 produced a dramatic finish as St Francis Bay surfer Jack Erlank used smart heat management to move into first place. Erlank capitalised on a larger outside set wave and earned a …
