Online entries open for Momentum Weekend Argus Knysna Cycle Tour
Online entries for the 2016 Momentum Weekend Argus Knysna Cycle Tour are open and tour director Elwin Thompson says that the Knysna Rotary Club, which coordinates the tour every year, is looking forward to the biggest and best event ever. “The race, which celebrates its 29th year in 2016, has grown enormously since its inception and now comprises four very popular events – MTB events, road races, the SPUR Children’s Tour and the Forest Family Dam Ride. These take place on 2 and 3 July over the first weekend of the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival (1-10 July 2016).” The MTB event is one of the biggest in southern Africa and includes outstanding cycling routes through the Knysna forest. The 50 km and 80 km MTB races are official premier seeding events of the 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour. There are four different MTB races in total for varying technical abilities - 80 km, 50 km, 30 km and 15 km, and routes include access to privately owned sections of property that are usually closed to the public. Says Thompson: “The routes are set up and managed by Leon Evans, known as Dr Evil and, while cyclists will be riding through one of the most scenic areas in the Garden Route, they will also have their skills tested to the maximum. “The 109 km road race follows a new route introduced in 2014 which was designed for enthusiastic, competitive roadies and will keep you working all the way to the finish line.” The route takes cyclists from Knysna to Sedgefield to Kleinkranz and back to Knysna. The 50 km route is from Knysna to Sedgefield and back along the N2. The SPUR Rotary Knysna Children's Cycle Tour is a safe, scenic race for children from 2 to 10 years of age and consists of three events which start and finish at the Knysna Oyster Festival Grounds, for 2-4 year olds, 5-7 year olds and 8-10 year olds. The successful 25 km Forest Family Dam Ride on Sunday, 3 July, is a relaxed MTB ride. It is open to a limited number of riders, 12 years and over with some …

Whether you compete in the half (21km) or the full (42km) marathon , runners can expect breath-taking views over the Knysna lagoon towards the Knysna Heads, the perfect inspiration towards the finish. Local taxis provide participants with a trip to the start like no other provided by local taxis. Early arrivals get to enjoy a hot drink and snacks next to warming fires, courtesy of Pick n Pay. Participants are encouraged to arrive dressed warmly due to the early start of the race when temperatures in the forest are bitterly cold. As in previous years, Momentum will be donating 2,000 blankets to keep runners warm at the start. (First come first served, so come early). The added bonus is that once the race starts the blankets are then collected up and donated to charities supporting families in local communities in Knysna. There is also a great tradition of people leaving behind their warm clothing that they wore to the start. It would be great if runners could be encouraged to wear or bring kit to donate. Marathon substitutions end on 27 May and entries can only be secured online at www.knysnamarathonclub.com. Pricing is as follows: Half …

Media and Politicians Challenged to go Race Free
South Africa is a country extremely sensitive to race. Race is what divides us according to who we associate with, where we live, who we vote for and our immediate first impressions of people that we deal with. All South Africans carry the baggage of a devastating shared past that continues to be a huge stumbling block to the success of an incredible nation. For decades we were conditioned to think in terms of our skin colour. Apartheid preached that persons of colour were inferior. Such was the iron grip of the Nationalist Party on the media that privileged white South Africans were not reminded on a daily basis of the crime happening in their own neighbourhoods - job reservation, inferior education, economic hardship and daily persecution of our fellow citizens continued in a mad rush to certain ruin. It was state television, during the 16 June 1976 Soweto riots, that allowed ordinary South Africans a glimpse of the groundswell of resistance against an ever oppressive government and which could have been the opening of the door that led to the release of political prisoners, the unbanning of the ANC and Communist Party, the release of Nelson Mandela and, finally, true democracy in 1994. We, as citizens have been a little bit tardy since then and have allowed our politicians, media and business to slip back into undemocratic and divisive ways. We are now constantly bombarded with divisive language as politicians try to score points by calling everyone out for being racist. The number of taboo words increases and the media have rushed to the party by further increasing the publicity that these politicians crave as we rush towards another crucial set of municipal elections in 2016. We need a movement, a groundswell of ordinary citizens that will say; "Enough - I love my neighbour, I love my country and I refuse to allow anyone to continue promoting this artificial division." The first part of the pledge to go Race Free is; "You pledge to not …

The easiest way to post MyPR Press Releases to your site
Up until recently MyPR.co.za has only made a summary of each article available via our numerous RSS feeds. We now make the Full Press Release text available via our RSS feeds. AND, for the busy publisher using Wordpress, we have a way for you to now automatically aggregate niche content from MyPR and encourage you to follow the model that MyCapeTown has pioneered. MyCapeTown is based on the Wordpress Content Management Platform and utilises an autoblogging platform called WP Robot and the 'Cape Town' tagged RSS feed to automatically publish press releases from MyPR to MyCapeTown The steps are simple: You must be running your site on Wordpress Purchase and install WP Robot HERE * If you are bewildered, help is at hand - for $5.00 I will install WP Robot and set up three campaigns for you. * Current prices range from $89 (Basic) to $129 (Full) to $329.00 (Developer). As a dyed in the wool tight-ass I hummed and hawed about spending money on WP Robot but, after due consideration, went big and bought the developer's version. (Scroll down for links to more auto blogging plugins). My reasons for buying the developer version were: Once off price and lifetime updates. The ability to give proper accreditation and not just 'steal' other peoples work. The fact that it is keyword or RSS based and can be tweaked to whatever niche that I am targeting. The once off price I paid was equivalent to one month of the monthly salary I would have paid a data capturer. Back to a practical example: Once you have installed WP Robot you have the choice of fetching articles from MyPR (and many other sources), republishing on your site as a draft or immediately all under remote control and as regular as you deem fit, whilst you sleep, eat and play. Your WP Robot won't take holidays or day's off sick, ask for an increase or use your resources without your permission. Now that is a sweet deal for a tight-ass such as myself. See MyCapeTown.co.za …

Coastal freeway link in great shape for holiday traffic
Coastal freeway link in great shape for holiday traffic Pretoria, 7 December 2015. Travelling on the N2 freeway that runs from Cape Town along the eastern seaboard to Durban should be trouble-free during the festive season and road users will not experience any delays caused by roadworks. Vusi Mona the Head of Communications of the South African National Roads Agency says there are no major construction activities underway on the artery that links the major coastal resorts of the Western and Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. “As a result, our engineers have rated the 550km stretch between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth expected condition as fair to good barring any unforeseen major traffic incidents or weather conditions,” says Mona. The road consists of a single carriageway with climbing lanes. Drivers are urged to look out for stray animals on the roadside and pedestrian activity especially near Grabouw, George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. SANRAL also calls on road users to follow important safety tips when they take to the country’s main roads during the festive season. “The main message is to remember that a road is a shared space and that you should be respectful towards tour fellow road users.” Speed limits are clearly indicated on the 21 450 km of roads managed by SANRAL in all nine provinces. “These are maximum limits and drivers should adjust their speed according to conditions such as rain or visibility,” says Mona. Road users are encouraged to take a break during long distance journeys to prevent fatigue and lack of concentration. The automated pay system on SANRAL’s toll roads has been operational since Friday, 4 December. Road users with electronic tags will no longer have to stop at participating toll plazas on the N2 South Coast road at the Oribi, Umtentweni and Izotsha plazas. “Automated payment makes it much easier for motorists who undertake long distance journeys,” says Mona. “They will not have to wait in queues at toll …
